Fixing a Solar Installation That Should Never Have Passed

The load-shedding rush put a lot of solar on a lot of roofs very quickly. Some of it was excellent work. Some of it was done by people who had been installing solar for three weeks.

If your system failed an audit, this is what happens next.

CleanVolts Solar Remediation

How Remediation Works

You get an itemised quote. Every fault we found, what it costs to fix, and how long it takes. Nothing bundled into a single number.

Safety issues are separated from the rest. We tell you plainly which items are a fire or shock risk and which are compliance tidy-ups. You decide what to do and when.

A registered electrical contractor does the work. CleanVolts manages the project, orders the components and coordinates the job. The electrical work is carried out and signed off by a registered contractor, who issues the Certificate of Compliance.

We re-inspect and issue the paperwork. Once the work is done, the system is re-checked and the CoC and SSEG documentation follow.

The Faults We Expect to Find

  • Undersized or unprotected DC cabling

  • Missing or incorrectly rated DC isolators

  • Connectors from mismatched brands pushed together — a common cause of hot joints

  • Poor or absent earthing and bonding

  • Batteries mounted without adequate ventilation or isolation

  • Inverters wired so that the system back-feeds when it should not

  • No labelling, no schematic, no documentation of any kind

What It Costs

Remediation is quoted per job, because no two bad installations are bad in the same way. Small fixes are often a few thousand rand. A system that needs the DC side rebuilt is a bigger job and we will say so.

If we did the audit and you appoint us for the remediation, the audit fee comes off the quote.

Components at Cost

CleanVolts charges a project management fee and supplies components at cost. You see what the panels, isolators, cabling or batteries actually cost, and what you are paying us to manage the work. No markup buried in the parts.
