The DC side. Panel strings, cable routing, cable sizing, connectors and DC isolators. Most of the faults we expect to find live here, and most homeowners never see it.

Heat. A thermal scan of connections, the DB board, isolators and the inverter under load. A connection that is running hot is a fire that has not happened yet.

Earthing and bonding. Whether the array, mounting structure and equipment are earthed and bonded correctly.

AC integration. How the system ties into your DB board, the protection in place, and whether a changeover is wired safely.

Batteries. Mounting, ventilation, isolation and state of health where the system has storage.

Labelling and documentation. What is required by SANS, what is missing, and what an inspector would ask for.

SSEG registration. Whether your system is registered with City Power or your municipality, and what it takes to get it registered if it is not.

• A written report with photographs of everything we found

• A plain pass or fail against the compliance requirements

• A Certificate of Compliance arranged through our registered electrical contractor if the system passes

• An itemised remediation quote if it does not, with the safety issues separated from the nice-to-haves

Between R3,500 and R6,000, depending on the size of the system and whether it has storage. We confirm the price before we come out — there are no on-the-day surprises.

If remediation work follows and you appoint us for it, the audit fee comes off that quote.

• The system was installed during 2022 or 2023 and you have never seen a CoC

• You are selling the property, or a transfer is underway

• Your insurer has asked about the solar system

• You have never registered the system with the municipality
