What is SSEG registration, and why does it matter?
SSEG (Small-Scale Embedded Generation) registration is City Power's official process for registering a grid-tied solar system. Unregistered systems can face municipal penalties running into the thousands of rands, and increasingly won't be recognised by insurers at claim time.
Why do insurers care about compliance?
Insurers are increasingly requiring proof of electrical compliance before paying out on fire or damage claims involving a solar installation. A Certificate of Compliance and SSEG registration are the documents they ask for.
How long does an audit take?
The on-site inspection and thermal scan typically take one to two hours. You'll receive the full report, and either a Certificate of Compliance or a remediation quote, within a few business days.
What happens if my system doesn't pass?
You'll get a clear, itemised remediation quote covering exactly what needs fixing — DC work, earthing, mounting, isolators or labelling. There's no obligation to use us for the remediation, though most clients do since we already know the system.
Who actually does the electrical work and issues the Certificate of Compliance?
Our partner electrical contractor, C3 Maintenance Solutions, carries out the electrical work and issues the Certificate of Compliance. We handle the survey, the report, the SSEG paperwork and the client relationship end to end.
